April Lockhart

April Lockhart was born on July 4th, 1995. in seventh grade. She began playing guitar and piano lessons, sparking her passion for writing songs. In the seventh grade April started taking guitar and piano classes. This ignited her interest in writing songs. At 14, April spent much time writing lyrics and perfecting her musical abilities. Then she began to take trips to write with father in NY and LA. April began also to incorporate additional topics that were related to of her peers who are dealing with such things as bullying by peers and teenage suicide as depicted in the song Take my Hand. Lockhart is a partner at the well-known clean beauty brand Ilia as well as an influencer in the lifestyle industry with a huge following of her own. The disability she has is part of her personality, but it is not the whole picture. Lockhart's Instagram account doesn't ignore her disability. However, it doesn't emphasize her disability. The profile is a statement. The message is that we all share many identities, we're way more diverse than we think we're. Lockhart speaks through video from Nashville. "I do not wish for it to dictate my existence. I don't want to only be recognized as an expert in disabilities. But it does not affect my daily routine. I continue to do my normal activities and have adjusted to my disability. However, it's a component of me so I think it's essential to discuss. Lockhart encourages us to keep going with self-acceptance. Still, she acknowledges going through phases of insecurity with her physique and being uncomfortable wearing some clothing types that exposed her arms. Today, she wears whatever she wants and posts images of her outfits to social media, she is proud of herself. Self-love, she says, is like a journey. "I believe that you'll be there," she said. That's true of everyone regardless of how much they are afraid. I think that having people around you who really know you and see your heart is really important as they'll be the ones that remind you of what are you worried about?
